Dementia Service Support Officer

Community Support Services

Salary: £21,461 - £26,214 (2-year fixed term)

Hours: 30 hours a week

Closing date: 25  March 2019

We need commitment to customer service and determination to help. We need you!

Our community support services team offers a life-line to older and vulnerable people in our community. One of our services extends that life-line to our residents with dementia and their families and carers. So often carers especially don’t look after themselves, that is where we come in - we are there to look after them, to offer support and to be there when they have no one else

As you see, this is a role that requires a special type of person; it requires you. You have the commitment to care, the dedication to people, as well as the communication and organisational skills to be that life-line for our clients.

You might think that you need specialist training to even apply for this role but don’t worry about that as we will provide the training, what we need is your

  • integrity
  • passion for helping people
  • ability to ensure this vital service runs smoothly and efficiently.

The role

  • You will work 4 days per week, allowing you to juggle the other commitments in your life.
  • On one of the days you will run a specialist group, allowing people living with dementia to participate in group activities, socialise and improve their wellbeing.
  • On the other days you will provide office support, advice and information at the Civic Centre in Esher to carers, employees and other health professionals.
  • You will be expected to work one evening a month until 8pm supporting the monthly ‘Alz café’ (a meeting place for those impacted by dementia), as well as, providing support to both the carers support group and the annual training programme.

About us

We are proud of our commitment to support our older and more vulnerable residents through the community support services team. This group of committed and inspiring individuals come together to offer our residents a huge variety of care and support. For example,

  • Meals on wheels
  • Community alarm and telecare services
  • Community transport
  • Independent living centre
  • And specialist groups supporting those with Parkinson’s and those recovering from a stroke.

At the heart of this service are our seven Centres for the Community in Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Thames Ditton, Cobham, Molesey and Claygate. Each of these centres has its own personality; its own community but they are connected by a determination to provide high quality services to older and vulnerable people in our community.

As mentioned, we will provide all the training you need, and we will support you every step of the way.

If you would like to know more about the role, please read through the recruitment information, as well as the pack on the community support services team.
